Project Details

Project Type Design – Build
Project Location NSTA, BULGARIA
Owner Usace Europe District
Project Start 21 January 2021
Project End Ongoing
Contract Value $ 3,262,884.81

The scope of the project:

  • Design & Construction of Training Aids Devices Simulator and Simulations (TADSS) Center
  • Design & Construction of Range Tower
  • Design & Construction of Live Fire Shoot House (LFSH)
  • Design & Construction of 350m Moving Armor Target (MAT) Wall

Design & Construction of Training Aids Devices Simulator and Simulations (TADSS) Center

New training facility will be a light gauge pre-fabricated metal building with sandwich insulated panels to match the existing buildings.

The project includes the following general items of work, detailed requirements are contained elsewhere in this Statement of Work:

  • Clear, grub, and grade the site
  • Construct new training center
  • Provide site improvements including roads and parking

Design & Construction of Live Fire Shoot House (LFSH)

The live fire shoot house is intended for training with ammunition up to NATO 9mm, 5,56mm legacy, 7.62mm legacy, and 5.56mm Enhanced Performance Round (EPR), and will provide a facility with a bullet stopping envelope allowing for 360 degree horizontal live fire training. The ballistic envelope will be constructed in accordance with the applicable specification. Structure must include a catwalk with stairs and an independent, non ballistic roof.

A containment wall, three meters high shall be constructed in front of each door to the shoot house so that it intercepts a round fired through the door from any point inside the door. A steel catwalk with railing and an exterior access stairwell will be constructed to provide views of all training rooms from above. Exterior ballistic walls and minimum of 2.5m from the top of the deck of the catwalk to the bottom of the lowest surface of the roof structure/ roof system. The floor must be a non-porous, sealed, concrete slab. The interior surface of the AR500 steel walls (5/8 inch or 1.6 cm minimum thickness) will be covered with fire retardant ballistic rubber panels (4 inch or 10.16cm minimum thickness). Doors will be wood doors with wood frames.

Design & Construction of 350m Moving Armor Target (MAT) Wall

The Bulgarian training area needs repair of a 350 meter permanent MAT wall, track foundation, and a new trolley house shelter. The MAT wall must be constructed of concrete block wall. A shelter for the target trolley to be stored will be constructed of reinforced concrete or masonry blocks, at the beginning of the track at the Southernmost end. The 350 Meter track (provided and installed by the user) willbe installed on a service road/track bed, with no more than a 2% level of grade change, with structural fill and drainage for the area.

The project includes the following general items of work, detailed requirements are contained elsewhere in this Statement of Work:

  • Clear, grub, grade the site, and provide drainage
  • Construct new 350 Meter Moving Armor Target wall, compacted protection berm, trolley shelter, access road tie-in, service road/track bed.
  • Provide site improvements including access roads and line of sight.
